Volunteer Experience

Volunteering with Rebuild 1000 is a different kind of volunteer experience.

Rebuild 1000 homes are often rebuilt from the studs up...

Due to the heavy damage sustained by many homes in the Gulf region, much of the rebuilding must occur from the studs up.  Because the scope is so large, work on a Rebuild 1000 site often requires many months and multiple volunteer teams to complete.  Unlike new construction or light remodeling, the Rebuild 1000 brand of reconstruction not only tolerates, but very much relies on a blend of both novice and highly skilled volunteers to complete our work. Rebuild 1000 projects have a little something for everyone.

Rebuild 1000 homes are often owner occupied...

Rebuild 1000 homes are often occupied by the homeowner while work is being done. This situation provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to form meaningful and lasting relationships with homeowners. Our homeowners have a tremendous spirit and take pride in their homes and communities. Volunteers have been known to be invited to go fishing or even sent home with a secret family recipe for gumbo. As a Rebuild 1000 volunteer you will be doing more than hanging drywall or painting siding, you will be helping a new friend get back into their home.

Rebuild 1000 Project Work Weeks are fun...

Sure, it may be called a Project WORK Week, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun! Volunteering with Rebuild 1000 is a great experience for colleges, churches, or a group of friends. Volunteers have the opportunity to spend an entire week on the Gulf Coast in exciting places like New Orleans, LA and Biloxi, MS. The residents of the coast are welcoming and are always happy to point out the best in local food and fun. In addition, this amazing shared experience helps create and strengthen relationships long after you've returned home.
