Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in working with our gulf affiliates and the Rebuild 1000 initiative. We are thrilled that you are donating a week of your time and talent to help those people most impacted by the hurricanes. A National Work Week kicks off with an orientation meeting on Sunday night and ends on Friday afternoon.

Our 2010 Work Week Dates are listed below for New Orleans, and both Acadiana and Calcasieu are open to negotiating specific Work Week dates with individual groups.

The local affiliate will ensure that you have all the tools and materials needed to successfully complete the repairs listed on the scope of work for your Work Week. We are requesting that each volunteer contribute funds to Rebuilding Together for the logistical expenses of a Rebuild 1000 Work Week. The expenses include housing, food, insurance, t-shirts, safety equipment and daily transportation to and from the worksite.

Volunteer fees range between $260 and $285 per person per week, depending on the affiliate with whom volunteers will work. Additionally, Rebuild 1000 offers group discounts for those groups with at least 15 members. These discounted fees range between $180 and $260 per individual group member. Please contact Brian Parks at bparks@rebuildingtogether.org if your group is interested in receiving a group discount.

Volunteers may choose to use the housing options provided by the host affiliate or may secure alternative accommodations for the work week at their own expense. Please indicate which housing option you will be choosing below:

A. I will contribute a Non-refundable Volunteer Participation Fee to cover Food, Housing and Transportation. The Fee is $260 per person per week for a work week in Acadiana or Calcasieu. The fee is $285 per person per work week in New Orleans. The Logistical Fee includes the following:

  • Housing at an approved volunteer housing facility
  • Daily shuttle service to and from the job site
  • Three meals a day
  • Volunteer accident insurance
  • Safety gear and t-shirts
  • Organized and supervised build sites

B. I will secure my own housing, food (other than on-site lunches), and transportation to and from the work site. Rebuilding Together requires a $40, non-refundable donation per person per week to help defray the cost of lunches, safety gear, t-shirts, and insurance.

Please be aware that the team will still expect you to arrive at the work site on time and to participate with the team through clean up at the end of the day. Parking may be an issue at some of the sites, and we ask that you consider this in planning your on-time arrival in the morning.

This option is strongly discouraged by Rebuilding Together as volunteers will easily pay four times as much to incur these costs on their own. Separate schedules create logistical problems for the affiliate, and reduce bonding, team-building, and planning time with those who are not part of the group. However, if you feel that this alternative option is best suited for your needs, you must contact Dawn Lee at dlee@rebuildingtogether.org in order to receive a discount code before registering for a Work Week.

Your donation for the volunteer fee is not tax deductable, as you are receiving goods and services for this donation.
