About Rebuild 1000

Rebuilding Together is a national leader in home rehabilitation and our experience bringing volunteers together to rebuild homes and communities made a strong national response in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita a natural fit. Rebuilding Together has pledged to rebuild 1,000 homes in the Gulf from the coast of Mississippi to southeast Texas by working closely with its five Gulf affiliates including RT Gulf Coast, MS; RT New Orleans, LA; RT Acadiana, LA; RT Calcasieu, LA and RT Southeast Texas. The Rebuild 1000 initiative is built on the strength of our affiliate network, which harnesses the volunteer leadership and experience of more than 220 community-based affiliates to mobilize thousands of volunteers to rebuild homes in the gulf.

The Rebuild 1000 program model utilizes our network of affiliate-experts to recruit local teams of 50-100 skilled and unskilled volunteers to serve in high-impact workweeks. One to three workweeks are scheduled per month in which 3-5 homes are rehabilitated each week. Rebuilding occurs through three phases roughing in, middle construction and finishing, each of which requires highly skilled volunteers. RT utilizes the cost-effective leveraging of in-kind donations and discounts to provide volunteer housing, meals and ground transportation at no cost to the volunteers.
