Status Update: Rebuilding Together New Orleans
Update on the status of the Rebuilding Together New Orleans staff, in light of Hurricane Gustav's impact on the city:
Several dozen members of the crew stayed through Sunday afternoon to aid with the City Assisted Evacuation Plan, whereby residents without transportation were directed to buses and trains leaving the city. This coordination with the City went well by all accounts, and RTNO's efforts in this regard were greatly appreciated. These RTNO staff and AmeriCorps members then evacuated by caravan to Atlanta and other locations. We are all safe and accounted for.
We are watching the storm's impact from afar, and will await confirmation that it is safe to return before we can assess next steps. Our thoughts are with the homeowners and everyone who has spent the last 3 years struggling to rebuild, and we send a prayer on behalf of the city of New Orleans once again.
