Habitat for Humanity
The unparalleled damage to homes along the Gulf Coast requires a diverse and coordinated recovery effort. In light of this fact, Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together have partnered to meet the affordable housing needs of affected homeowners in the region. Habitat for Humanity’s hurricane-response program was implemented to help low-income, hurricane-affected families in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Alabama build permanent housing. The program began immediately after Hurricane Katrina and expanded after Hurricane Rita.
On the local level, Rebuilding Together affiliates and Habitat for Humanity affiliates work hand in hand, oftentimes sharing volunteers, supplies, and warehouse space. Nationally, Habitat for Humanity has provided support to Rebuild 1000 in the critical areas of capacity building and program administration.
