Countrywide Financial Corporation
Shortly after thousands of homes and lives were devastated by the hurricanes of 2005, Rebuilding Together joined with long-time supporter Countrywide Financial Corporation to launch the Rebuild 1000 initiative. Countrywide committed $1.5 million toward the program, founding this important effort. This commitment includes $500,000 in employee contributions and matching funds.
Countrywide employees continue the tradition of giving back to the communities in which they live and work by volunteering on Rebuild 1000 projects. In February of 2006, Countrywide sponsored the repair of the flood and wind damaged home of E.J. Segura in Delcambre, LA. The house was built by Mr. Segura's father in 1946 and was home to Mr. Segura and his wife until she passed away in 2001. Mr. Segura was a shrimper on the Gulf Coast until 1987, when a diabetic stroke forced him into early retirement. Mr. Segura has 4 children, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren that helped him to remove his damaged belongings after Hurricane Rita, when four feet of water flooded his home. With a grandson returning from Army Reserve Active Duty in Iraq and a granddaughter recently deployed with the Air force, Mr. Segura needed the help of the community to repair his damaged home for him and his family.
