Message from Gary Officer, President and CEO, Rebuilding Together

I would like each and every one of us to take a few moments to think about our less fortunate neighbor. This person, who occupies a home within our broader community, is at risk of losing that valuable emotional and financial asset because he/she simply cannot keep pace with the cost of maintenance. This person could be one of our parents, our brother or our sister. 

This year, more than any other in recent time, the issue of homeownership preservation has penetrated public debate. The devastation of the subprime mortgage fallout, combined with the high cost of energy, has placed millions of hardworking Americans at risk of losing their home. 

Rebuilding Together is a real solution for thousands of homeowners across the country. For 26 million low-income homeowners, this will be a particularly challenging winter. Home heating costs are continually on the rise, by as much as 25% for gas heat. Families already struggling to meet increasing property taxes, medical expenses and utility costs will find themselves, quite literally, left in the cold. 

But in the work of Rebuilding Together, the tools for giving are just as important as the tools for rehabbing. With your help, we can buy the shingles to repair a leaking roof and pay the staff to run the programs. With your help, we can provide hope.
