Unlocking the Total Value of Volunteers
Volunteers are one of the biggest assets of a Rebuilding Together Affiliate. Without the volunteers, the work simply couldn’t get done. At the same time, no one is more invested in seeing their local Affiliate succeed than someone who has been personally touched by the mission and who has spent their own time working on a project. To find the total value of a volunteer, we have to start thinking of them as both as an invaluable worker and as a potential donor who can contribute monetarily and through endorsements of Rebuilding Together.
What opportunities exist? How can affiliates capitalize on current opportunities? How can we begin to build the relationships outside of project day? How can we help volunteers think of themselves as donors? Can a plan be developed for the affiliate network? These are some of the questions that will be discussed by a diverse panel with insight into Rebuilding Together’s model, as well as expertise in the field.
Panelists will include Bonnie Bessor, Brad Segal and Michele Egan Sterne. Bonnie is the Executive Director of RT Baltimore. While she admits she has work to do, she has started on the path of seeing her volunteers as a potential donor pool, and will talk about the steps she has taken. Michele Egan Sterne is an Account Specialist from a cause marketing firm, For Momentum, bringing her vast non-profit experience, including individual fundraising with the Arthritis Foundation and local arts institutions. Brad Segal is a member of the Rebuilding Together National Board and has built his career on relationship building that translates from the business world to donor stewardship.
