Sears “Heroes at Home” program Salutes and Supports America’s Military on Veterans Day

WASHINGTON, DC – NOVEMBER 11, 2009 – Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable homeownership, is working with Sears on this Veteran’s Day to complete the latest of “Heroes at Home” projects.   The Heroes at Home program has completed more than 500 rebuild projects for military veterans and their families and assisted 3500 individuals.

This Veteran’s Day, Sears and Rebuilding Together, are taking on a major renovation in Boston, The New England Center for Homeless Veterans’.  The center offers a residential housing program along with supportive services focusing on education, employment and health care to their resident veterans. The project will honor those that Rebuilding Together and Sears are committed to serving through the “Heroes at Home” program.  Renovations began on November 5 and the mass-volunteer effort will culminate on Veteran’s Day with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. 

“On Veterans’ Day, through our Heroes at Home program, it is an honor to recognize the military service of men and women and to offer them a safe and warm place to call home”, said Don Hamblen, vice president and chief marketing officer for Sears. “We also were pleased that our local Sears employee volunteers could assist with the renovation of the New England Center for Homeless Veterans.”

Sears recognized the need to assist military families facing incredible hardship and they responded by working  with Rebuilding Together  on the  “Heroes at Home,” program which is dedicated to serving military families. Over the past three years, Sears has helped Rebuilding Together’s Veterans Housing program by raising more than $9 million dollars  The three year relationship has provided significant home repairs and accessibility modifications for hundreds of military families across the nation.
