Rebuilding Together Welcomes 36 New AmeriCorps Members to the CapacityCorps Program

Washington D.C. – August  18, 2009 – Rebuilding Together,  the nation's leading nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable homeownership, welcomed 36 new AmeriCorps members to their CapacityCorps last week, expanding the national AmeriCorps program to include the Green Housing Initiative. At the same time the organization celebrates the impact the CapacityCorps has had in the first year.

In the first six months of the CapacityCorps program operation the Rebuilding Together AmeriCorps members’ accomplished:

• 7,564 volunteers were recruited
• $134,210 in-kind donations generated
• $251,961 in cash resources generated
• 201,989  pieces of outreach materials distributed
• 394 presentations given
• 247 new partners
• 1816 homeowners served
• 621 homes repaired
• 1,679 repairs completed

“We’re so proud of what these AmeriCorps members’ have accomplished in such a short period of time,” stated Jessica Lowe, Director of National Service Programs for Rebuilding Together.  “We have achieved our goal of creating the housing preservation leaders of tomorrow, as we are pleased that nine  or 1/3 of the 27 first-ever graduating class of CapacityCorps members will go on to permanent positions in their affiliate or serve a second year of service with Rebuilding Together”.
 
Rebuilding Together kicked off the second year of CapacityCorps in New Orleans last week with 36 new members, and expanding our impact through the 12 additional Green CapacityCorps members that will focus on energy efficiency, weatherization and green rehab programs. Thirty six full-time CapacityCorps members will serve in 31 Rebuilding Together affiliates in 19 states.
