Sears Kicks Off Its Spring Heroes at Home Rebuilds Partnering with Rebuilding Together

Hoffman Estates, Ill., (May 15, 2009) – This spring, Sears’ Heroes at Home program and Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading volunteer home-rehabilitation organization, seek to improve the lives of American military families in need by making necessary repairs, improvements or modifications to their homes. To kick off its continuation of more than 300 Heroes at Home rebuilding projects, Sears and Rebuilding Together, will renovate the Eddie Beard Veterans Home in Chicago on Saturday, May 16.

Sears is encouraging Americans to join the effort of helping deserving military families. Between Friday, May 15 and Monday, July 6, donations can be made in Sears’ stores or online at Sears.com/heroesathome. The donations will support the rehabilitation of homes for veterans and military families across the country.

“This weekend will kick off Sears’ ‘Patriot Season’ in which our staff, associates and our customers demonstrate their commitment to the military through the ongoing Heroes at Home builds and donations,” said Don Hamblen, Sears’ chief marketing officer. “The need for America’s heroes has never been greater, and our customers want to show their appreciation to those who serve. By offering the option of giving both online and in-store, Sears hopes to inspire our customers to partner with us and help these deserving military families.” said Don Hamblen.

Sears customers will be able to show their gratitude in a number of ways, including:
• In-store: Customers can make donations of $1, $5, $10 at check out.
• Online: Members of the Sears community online can donate, nominate participants, including self-nomination and track the progress of the various builds.

On Saturday, May 16, Sears and Rebuilding Together will kick off its ‘Patriot Season’ and help to renovate the Eddie Beard Veterans Home in Chicago from 8am to 2pm CT. Volunteers from Sears and Rebuilding Together will conduct a variety of modifications, from the installation of a ramp and chair lift for handicapped veterans to replacing the carpet and windows. The shelter provides interim housing for honorably-discharged veterans, as well as offers counseling, education and job placement services to help homeless veterans become self-sufficient and lead productive lives.

Sears’ Heroes at Home program provides support to service members, veterans and their families through joint efforts with various nonprofit organizations, including Rebuilding Together. Sears Holdings has spearheaded nationwide fundraising efforts over the past several years which has raised more than $16 million through Heroes at Home. Heroes at Home and Rebuilding Together have helped hundreds of military families across America and the commitment continues as Sears Holdings' support the men and women who serve our country.

Sears Holdings' ongoing commitment to assisting troops and their families includes several recruiting and employment programs. The company offers a military pay differential to Sears associates employed (full time) who are reservists serving on active duty. Additionally, reservists who are employed full-time are allowed to continue participating in life insurance, medical and dental programs.
