Article type: News
The successful community revitalization and environmental awareness initiative, HGTV Change the World. Start at Home, will offer new opportunities for Americans to get engaged in volunteer community projects. In partnership with Rebuilding Together, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the 2009 campaign will highlight historic veterans’ group homes in eight U.S. cities -- Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Nashville, St. Louis, Philadelphia and Tampa. Online users can visit HGTV.com/changetheworld to vote for their favorite projects. Viewers of HGTV’s Rose Parade 2009, airing live on Thursday, January 1, at 11 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. PT will be among the first to hear about the eight featured cities.
Voting will be active from January 1, 2009, to March 2, 2009. The two selected cities will be announced during the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2009 special, airing on Sunday, March 15, 2009, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The revitalization activities for the two selected cities may include new insulation, appliances and windows to make the homes more energy efficient.
