Article type: Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC (May 27, 2008) - Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading non-profit working to preserve affordable homeownership and Sears Holdings, the parent company of Sears and Kmart, kicked off the third fundraiser for the charitable program Heroes at HomeSM with an event to honor Christopher “Joe” Joseph, an Army Reserve veteran. The program, which has raised nearly $4 million to date, seeks to improve the lives of military families in need across America by making necessary repairs, improvements or modifications to their homes.

From May 22 through July 6, Sears customers will be able to participate simply by using their SearsCard, purchasing a Sears Heroes at Home  gift card, or by making donations in-store or online. Sears will make a donation of up to $500,000 for credit card purchases made at any of its Sears stores during that period of time. Additionally, at Kmart, customers can support Heroes at Home through the purchase of any Hershey’s product. Hershey’s will make a donation of $100,000 to Heroes at Home regardless of the amount of product purchased. The monies raised will go to help approximately 300 military families across America.

To kick off the Summer ’08 fundraising campaign, community volunteers, including volunteers from local Sears and Kmart stores worked to complete renovations at the home of veteran, Christopher “Joe” Joseph. Through Heroes at Home, various repairs were made to the home including a new roof, bathroom modifications, window and door repairs, and heating system repairs at no cost to the family.
