Rebuilding Together and Sears’ “Heroes at Home” expanded their profound impact to San Juan, Puerto Rico
Homeowner Success Story added on Jul 12 2010
On July 9, Rebuilding Together and Sears’ “Heroes at Home” expanded their profound impact to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to rebuild the home of a local veteran, Staff Sergeant Angel Dumont. SSgt. Dumont served his country for several years in the Army National Guard, including tours in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. SSgt. Dumont’s vast contributions to his country positioned him as a well-deserving veteran and homeowner to receive extensive rehabilitations; which included an entire roof renovation and energy-efficient electrical updates. 25 Sears employees volunteered throughout the day to complete the home renovations, and Sears donated new appliances to the Dumont family home, ensuring efficiency and comfort for years to come.
The successful rebuilding day in Puerto Rico is a small sample of the noteworthy effect “Heroes at Home” has generated for the support of veterans throughout the country. Not only does “Heroes at Home” serve as a thank-you to the troops, but it also makes it possible for veterans to return to their homes and provide good, safe and healthy home conditions for veterans and their families.
“Heroes at Home” is an initiative created through the Sears and Rebuilding Together. Together they have pledged to rebuild 750 veterans’ homes, a goal which was met in June 2010. “Heroes at Home” recognizes the extraordinary sacrifices made by servicemen and women, who often struggle to adapt to civilian life after their service. Over $9 million has been raised for Heroes at Home during the past three years. An active campaign is currently in Sears stores nationwide, giving customers the opportunity to support this fantastic effort, allowing for extensive renovations across the country for veterans and their families.
